The Mine
The village's seasonal hearthsalt mine, whose shallow workings sit above the deep motherlode: Kip's third level and first interior.

Spatial plan
The Mine: Waking the ChainNotes
Shallow seasonal workings and the deep motherlode are one mine. The village works the upper levels out of summer; the deep-hearth door below them is the taboo threshold nobody crosses.
In summer the mine is empty and its lamp chain is cold. Waking it ahead of the Kilnrath surveyor is Kip's third level, played with the pole only.
Contents in play: drift rats, pit timber voles and wall-clinging hearth newts in their mine habitats, Old Siltclaw at the pump intake, the deep-hearth door seen and left shut, and the miner's pick near the end.
The hearth chamber is a natural cavern crossed by the hearthsalt seam. The village broke into it generations ago and has worked around its edges; it did not excavate a great hall. Its floor is no more than about 45 by 35 metres, with retained rock pillars and the worked seam along the wall.
Upper drift, wet workings and chamber overlap around an open hoist shaft and overlooking shelves. Below them the sump is the pumped basin at roughly Y36; a short cut from its dry crescent reaches the shut deep-hearth door on the mine's lowest dry ground, roughly Y30. Nothing beyond the door is designed.
Miners operate the hand pump to keep the sump basin below the spill sill into that lower cut, keeping the door shelf dry below the water table. During the empty season Old Siltclaw has partially choked the intake and the basin is rising, but it remains below the spill sill when Kip visits. The shelf is dry for this visit, not indefinitely: without pumping, water will spill down the cut and drown the door. Relighting and clearing the mine adds no pump-repair objective.
Exact dungeon structure is the level plan's job; the timing and story purpose above are settled.

"reason": "The third-level timing and story purpose were deliberately settled on September 13, so the obsolete first details bullet contradicted the current record. The fourth-iteration brief replaces the excavated-hall reading with a natural void worked at its edges, makes the storeys visible from one another, and puts the forbidden threshold below the pumped basin. A spill sill explains why the lower cut is still dry during this visit despite the partly choked intake; continued flooding would drown it without pumping. Existing history remains intact.",
