The Cutting

An active timber cutting beside Lamp Road: felling in progress on the first shift, a finished clearing and an opened fork on the second.

The Cutting

Spatial plan

Lamp Road: The Finished Cutting

Spatial plan

Lamp Road: Opening Shift

Notes

First shift: stumps, a felled trunk or two, stacked logs, an axe stuck where the woodcutter left it, and a line of marked trees showing where the cut is going. The way beyond is blocked by standing timber and the work itself.

Second shift: the marked trees are down, the ground is cleared, and the cut has become a track. The axe is left behind.

Working answer for where the track goes: a timber haul track toward the Mine Road, because pit props are what the mine needs as Kilnrath tools speed the work, and because it closes a Lamp Road, Mine Road, village loop. The alternative is a spur to the Long Road.

Its exact position on Lamp Road is the level plan's decision. The cutting must be seen from the road on the first pass, not hidden.
