The Kilnrath Trade Route

Regular Kilnrath wagon runs on the Long Road, carrying village goods out and outside goods in, which the village can ride and load: the broadly useful benefit that makes the extraction arrangement an easy yes.

Notes

It is cheap for the Kilnrath because they need the road for hearthsalt anyway, and it is understood by the village in one conversation because everyone knows what Tam's four-day hike costs.

It is not a construction project. No rail, no deforesting, no year of works: their vehicles already made the road once, and they will make it regularly.

It changes the village's relationship to the world without changing the village: local by choice instead of by geography. It is also the channel outside news and pressure will arrive through.

Later possibilities noted, not decided: Tam racing a Kilnrath vehicle as a comic sub-story, and Kip riding or driving one of these vehicles to reach later regions.
